Top 10 Best ISO 27001:2022 Service Providers in Canada
Who are the best ISO 27001:2022 service providers in Canada?
There is no single best provider, because ISO 27001 services come in two kinds: certification bodies that audit and certify you, and consultants that build your ISMS. Choose one of each and keep them separate, and check the certification body’s accreditation in the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) directory before you sign.
Certification body
Audits your ISMS and issues the certificate. It must be accredited for ISO/IEC 27001.
Consultant
Builds the ISMS and prepares you for the audit, but does not certify you.
What to check
The accreditation scope covers ISO/IEC 27001, and the certificate names the 2022 edition.
ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is the international standard for an information security management system, and Canadian customers and partners increasingly ask for the certificate. PIPEDA also requires security safeguards that suit the sensitivity of personal information, and ISO 27001 is a recognized way to evidence them, although it does not make you PIPEDA compliant on its own.
This guide labels each provider by role so you can compare like with like. For Toronto-specific penetration testing and certification options, see our Toronto guide to ISO 27001 and penetration testing companies, or explore our ISO 27001:2022 certification and implementation services.
How to Choose an ISO 27001:2022 Provider in Canada
Start by deciding which job you need done, because certifiers and consultants are not interchangeable. Then run three checks on any certification body before you sign.
Three Checks Before You Sign
1. Accreditation
The Standards Council of Canada offers accreditation for ISMS certification bodies, which must also hold ISO/IEC 17021-1 accreditation. A body accredited by another IAF member can also be valid, so confirm that ISO/IEC 27001 is in its scope.
2. Edition
The certificate should name ISO/IEC 27001:2022. Certificates on the 2013 edition stopped being valid after 31 October 2025.
3. Independence
Use a consultant to prepare you and a separate certification body to audit you. Accredited bodies are bound by impartiality rules.
Questions to Ask a Provider
- Which legal entity will issue the certificate, and who accredits it?
- How are audit days calculated under ISO/IEC 27006-1:2024, and can you see the calculation?
- How is audit time split between remote and on-site work?
- Do you have Canadian references in my sector?
- What does the fee look like across the three-year cycle, including surveillance and recertification audits?
Smaller organizations may also look at the federal CyberSecure Canada certification program, a baseline certification delivered through accredited bodies. It is separate from ISO 27001, so check its current status before you plan around it.
List of Top 10 ISO 27001:2022 Service Providers in Canada
We checked each provider’s role, accreditation signals and Canadian evidence in public sources, and labeled it as a certification body, a consultancy or a training body. We left out the Big Four advisory firms such as PwC, Deloitte and KPMG because we found no public evidence of an accredited ISO 27001 certification arm in Canada. EY’s separate certification body, EY CertifyPoint, is included.
Transparency note: CyberSapiens publishes this list and ranks itself first. Companies 2 to 10 follow in order of how strongly public sources show their ISO 27001 work in Canada.
1. CyberSapiens
CyberSapiens is a consultancy that prepares organizations for ISO 27001:2022 certification, from gap analysis and ISMS documentation to internal audit. It works with accredited certification bodies for the final audit, so it does not replace one. CyberSapiens lists an office in Hamilton, Ontario, alongside offices in Australia, the USA and India.
Best for: Ontario organizations that want ISMS preparation and audit readiness before they approach a certification body.
Talk to Us About ISO 270012. BSI Group Canada
BSI Group Canada Inc. is based in Toronto and audits organizations against ISO/IEC 27001. Information Services Corporation, a TSX-listed company, said BSI Group Canada audited it for ISO/IEC 27001 in its 2023 certification announcement. We did not confirm which accreditation body covers the Canadian entity, so ask for its scope.
Best for: organizations that want a globally known certification body with a Toronto office.
3. Cyber Security Canada
Cyber Security Canada is an Ontario certification body whose SCC scope of accreditation (French version) covers ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and its 2024 amendment, plus the CyberSecure Canada certification program. It is based in Petawawa, so expect remote or travel-based audits for clients elsewhere.
Best for: small and medium organizations that want an SCC-accredited certificate and may also pursue CyberSecure Canada.
4. DNV Canada
DNV Business Assurance offers ISO/IEC 27001 certification in Canada, alongside ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO 42001, and says it aligns ISO 27001 work with Canadian frameworks such as CyberSecure Canada. See its DNV Canada ICT certification services page. We did not find a Canadian client certificate, so ask for references.
Best for: ICT and SaaS organizations that may add privacy or AI management certification later.
5. SGS
SGS North America Inc. issued an ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate to Les Industries Polykar, a company with sites in Quebec and Alberta, valid from July 2025 to July 2028. SGS also offers ISO/IEC 27001 training courses.
Best for: organizations that hold several ISO certificates and want one global auditor.
6. TÜV SÜD
TÜV SÜD certifies organizations to ISO 27001:2022 and published a case study on Plus Company, a Montreal headquartered firm that obtained ISO 27001:2022 certification through it. The case study is from the US site, so confirm which TÜV SÜD entity would audit you.
Best for: organizations that want a European certification body with North American reach.
7. Seekingfire Consulting
Seekingfire Consulting is a British Columbia information security consultancy listed in an ISO consultant directory for ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 work. It focuses on growing businesses and does not certify, so it pairs with a separate certification body. Public information about its client work is limited.
Best for: growing organizations in western Canada that want a local ISMS consultant.
8. PECB
PECB is headquartered in Montreal and is known for ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor training. Its UKAS schedule of accreditation covers certification of persons, which means it certifies individuals and not your ISMS.
Best for: teams that want to train internal staff as implementers or auditors.
9. EY CertifyPoint
EY CertifyPoint is EY’s separate certification body, based in Amsterdam and accredited by the Dutch accreditation body RvA. It states that EY advisory work cannot itself be certified by CertifyPoint, which keeps the roles apart. We found no Canadian office or Canadian client certificate.
Best for: multinational or cloud service organizations that want a certificate from a global body.
10. Schellman
Schellman is a US-based firm that states it is accredited by ANAB for ISO 27001 and by UKAS for ISO 27001, as described on its ISO certification services page. We found no Canadian office, so confirm that it audits Canadian organizations before you rely on it.
Best for: technology and cloud organizations that also need SOC 2 or other attestations.
Verify before you sign: search the Standards Council of Canada directory of accredited organizations, or another IAF member’s register, to confirm your certification body is accredited for ISO/IEC 27001 and that the certificate names the 2022 edition. Treat any consultant who guarantees an audit result with caution, because only the independent certification body decides.
ISO 27001 in Canada: Frequently Asked Questions
Who accredits ISO 27001 certification bodies in Canada?
The Standards Council of Canada is the internationally recognized accreditation body in Canada for ISMS certification. A body accredited by another IAF member can also be valid, so confirm that ISO/IEC 27001 is in its scope.
Can the consultant who prepared me also certify me?
No. Accredited certification bodies are bound by impartiality rules, so use a consultant to prepare you and a separate body to audit you.
Do I need ISO 27001 to comply with PIPEDA?
No. PIPEDA requires security safeguards that suit the sensitivity of the information and does not prescribe a standard, but ISO 27001 is a recognized way to evidence them.
Is my ISO 27001:2013 certificate still valid?
No, unless it was transitioned to the 2022 edition before 31 October 2025. Ask your certification body to confirm the status of your certificate in writing.
Does ISO 27001 replace CyberSecure Canada certification?
No. They are separate: CyberSecure Canada is a federal baseline program for small and medium organizations, while ISO 27001 is an international ISMS standard. Check the program’s current status before you plan around it.
